About Department

The Department of Sociology was established in the year 1977 and is a very important and popular department among students. In addition to teaching students in the classroom, they should experience a real social life, social awareness should be developed among the students, the department of Sociology is always striving for this. In addition to the regular study and research the Department of Sociology emphasizes the fieldwork method. Criminology and Urban sociology is a very important and special subject taught in the sociology department. The Department of Sociology visited Yeravda jail and studied prisoners. The Department of Sociology visited the Warli tribal community in Dahanu Dist.- Thane and studied to Warli tribal community. The sociology department has a high-quality tradition and the department's students are always on the merit list of the Shivaji University Kolhapur. The students of the department participate in the National Service Scheme N.S.S. & N.C.C, and students actively participate in other social activities. Many students in this department are working as police, journalists, lawyers, and government service

Mission

To inculcate goals and values stated in the constitution of India among the students for upholding values such as Democracy, Genderequality, social justice, and Human Rights required for a just and human society through knowledge of Sociology.

2 Kale Dhanshree Tukram 01-07-2019 University Level University Ranker Kale Dhanashree Tukaram stood first in the sociology subject in the March 2018 university examination at Shivaji University. She received the Vilas Sangwe Sociology Award and the Satyashodhak Krishnaji Patil Award.
