National Service Scheme NSS

About NSS

The N.S.S. has been established by the central government to commemorate Mahatma Gandhi’s birth centenary in the year 1969. The scheme promotes Gandhian thought of rural development and self-dependence.

The N.S.S. department has been actively functioning right from the inception of the college in 2001. The N.S.S. intends to inculcate the qualities of self-dependence, social sensibility, honesty and dignity of labor.

The college runs all the programs and activities designed by the ministry of youth affairs and sports and the Shivaji university, Kolhapur . The college has the N.S.S. Unit of two hundred volunteers.

Motto of NSS

“Not Me But You”
The expression stands for two things:
1. Forgetting and surrendering the self, and Rendering selfless service to others.
2. The word "Not" before "Me" is to reduce the self to nothing and the Word "But" before "You" can be expanded as follows: - “I do not live for me but for you.” “The world is not only for me but to you also.”

NSS Symbol

The symbol of the National Service Scheme, as appearing on the cover is based on the ‘Rath’ wheel of the Konark Sun Temple of Orissa. These giant wheels of the Sun Temple portray the cycle of creation, preservation and release, and signify the movement in life across time and space. The design of the symbol, a simplified from of the Sun-chariot wheel, primarily depicts movement. The wheel signifies the progressive cycle of life.
