National Cadet Corps (NCC)

About NCC

The roots of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) trace back to the 'University Corps,' established under the India Defence Act of 1917. Initially created to address the shortage of the Army in 1920, the Indian Territorial Act led to the replacement of the 'University Corps' with the 'University Training Corps (UTC).' In 1942, the UTC underwent a name change to become the University Officers Training Corps (UDTC). As part of the evolving landscape, the NCC Act XXXVI of 1948, administered under the Ministry of Defence (MOD), formalized the organization.

Recognizing the imperative to create a national-level youth organization, the idea was championed by leaders who envisioned training young individuals to become exemplary citizens and future leaders, extending their influence across various spheres, including the Defense forces. In 1946, a committee, led by Pandit HM Kunzru and established at the behest of the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, laid the groundwork for the NCC.

The NCC, with its motto 'Unity and Discipline' adopted on December 23, 1957, stands true to its principles. Embodying this motto, the NCC emerges as a significant cohesive force within the nation, uniting youth from diverse regions and shaping them into unified, secular, and disciplined citizens. This commitment reflects the NCC's pivotal role in fostering a sense of national pride and unity among the youth, preparing them for leadership roles across all facets of life, including service in the Defense forces.
